Gumbo

VT Dog Rescue saves dogs from high kill shelters in the South and finds them loving homes.

Gumbo

Gumbo was born on July 7th in a loving home in MS. He was raised with his mom and 6 siblings. His mom appears to be a Heeler mix and weighs about 40 lbs. Dad was a traveling man so we don’t know much about him.

Once weened, Gumbo went into a foster home in MS with 2 of his siblings and received lots of love. His foster mom spent time with him, worked on his housebreaking skills and made it possible for him to thrive.

Gumbo is now in one of our VT foster homes and is such a good boy! He’s housebroken, crate trained, super affectionate and cuddly. He sleeps well through the night and enjoys interacting with other dogs and cats. He is a normal, playful, puppy - but not high strung like some Heeler’s can be.

His foster mom shared:

“Gumbo is such a sweet boy! He’s smart, loves to be with us, and curious. He is playful, but respectful of the older dogs in our home. Pretty mellow unless with his siblings then they all just want to play.”

We do not provide DNA testing which is the only way to know with certainty which breeds are in their genetic background. Our best guess is that they are Heeler mixes. We expect them to reach 35-45 lbs as adults, but we can't guarantee size at maturity.

We highly recommend training classes for all of our dogs to get everyone off to a great start. Training recommendations are available.
